THREE ARTISTS DISPLAY WORK IN WHITEWATER
The
artwork of long time Whitewater residents
Dorothy Spurgat, Terry Hering and Karolyn
Alexander is now on display at The
Gallery in The Double Dip Deli, 180 W. Main Street, in Whitewater. The showing
is sponsored by the Whitewater Arts Alliance.
Titled “3 Gals Again – Art Show”, the exhibition features watercolors. All three artists have wide backgrounds as art students but what they all have in common is that they have studied watercolor painting with Marilyn Keating at L’Atelier in Janesville.

Spurgat has taught art for over 20 years in the Whitewater Public Schools. She “loves the transparent quality of watercolor painting” and the show features, among others, some of her beautiful floral watercolors.

In addition to Keating, Hering has studied painting with Beth Martin of Whitewater. The display features some of her watercolor paintings: scenes, florals and abstractions. She shares with the viewer “her warm memories of a special trip or the serenity of a quiet spot” and hopes that “the viewer will feel the “alegria de vida” (joy of life) through my art.”

Alexander’s lifelong interest in art was influenced by her father, the late Richard Kettwig. Leanne Stevenson helped her to “think outside the box” and Susan Alexander of the “Clay Loft Studio” in Palmyra inspired her work in clay. On display are some of her watercolors (Her semi-abstractions let the “viewer fill-in the blanks.”) and a selection of her hand built ceramics.
There will be a public reception on Sunday, June 11th from 1 to 3
p.m. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work, the philosophy behind
their artwork and their plans for future work. The show will close on June 28th.
