Iron Pour Sculpture Workshop
August 17 -
20, 2005

The Whitewater Arts Alliance along with Dan McGuire of UW-Whitewater are sponsoring a sculpture and foundry pour workshop Wednesday, August 17th starting at 1 p.m. with a brief intro to the work shop plus slides explaining what would take place over the following three days. Thursday, August 18th the class would start at 1 p.m. and create 3-D imagery that would function as our patterns for creating sand molds. During the Thursday session the class will also prep the iron furnace and fabricate sand cottles (cottles are the containers that hold the sand around the pattern). Friday the 19th the class will pour sand around patterns, plus prepare the iron for Saturday. All participants will be given safety demonstrations so that they can help pour on Saturday. The Saturday pour starts at 6 a.m. and usually goes till the cows come home.
The cost of the workshop is $75 per person and needs to be paid by July 30th. The workshop is limited to 18 people. All demonstrations, plus pouring will take place at UW-Whitewater, in room 1036 of the Greenhill Center of the Arts. All participants will need to sign a liability wavier.
