Arts Alliance News:

“CHAIRS” of Whitewater – Come! Sit! Enjoy! is now part of our history.  On Saturday, September 30, from 5-7 pm at the Cravath Lakefront Center, over 100 people enjoyed our annual public arts auction.  Greg Greenwood, Whitewater Arts Alliance President and our auctioneer for the evening, aided by Board Member Steven Shaw, energized the evening with great commentary on each chair and engaged the crowd with humor and enthusiasm.  This year we were pleased to see an increase in the number of people who just came to watch and be part of the social aspect of the event.  There was also definitely a battle of the bidders going on throughout the evening.  This added to interest and definitely added to the final dollar total of the event.  Our final total for the sale of 56 CHAIRS came to $7,125.  With Lakeview School’s Chair bringing the top bid for the evening in the amount of $700.  Jon Kachel, presenting Commercial Bank, had originally sponsored Mareta Hale, art teacher at Lakeview and some third grade students to paint the chair “Day & Night”.  The Commercial Bank purchased the chair and returned it to Lakeview School.  The audience also enjoyed a wonderful buffet throughout the auction.  Fat Jack’s Roadhouse catered the event.

The 2007 Public Arts Project was unveiled:

“BIRDHOUSES” of Whitewater

Flock to Whitewater and see...

The High Rise Housing on Main Street

John Mack, a young entrepreneur wood craftsman in Whitewater, designed and built two models.  Kristine Zaballos unveiled the model inspired by the purple martin houses built by Moksnes Manufacturing, her late grandfather’s company in the early 1970’s.  Dawn Hunter unveiled John’s other design based on UW-Whitewater’s Old Main Building which burned in the late 70’s.  John’s design honors his parents who both attended College High, as well as the University/ Community connection.  Twenty-five of each of these designs will be available for area artists to decorate.  Twenty paid reservations were taken the night of the auction.  All the birdhouses have been constructed.  Chuck Nass and his city crew are presently determining how to best secure and display them on the banner brackets.  Once the brackets have been attached, the birdhouses will be available to paint and decorate.  It is anticipated that the birdhouses will be available no later than the last week in October.  The birdhouses will be $30 and the money must be paid when the reservation is made.  For information about reservation please contact Dawn Hunter at 262-473-2730 or www.hunterdawnm@charter.net.  REMEMBER:  The supply is limited to a total of 50 birdhouses.
