Jeff McDonald, Exhibition Chair

Welcome to the 16th Annual Fran Achen Juried Photography Exhibition. It is once again my privilege to serve as chair.

Artists submitted a record number of photographs in the Printed Photograph Division, the new name for what was formerly the entire exhibition. Support for new Digital Image Division was strong, too. The high caliber photography in both divisions is inspiring. I am delighted with where the exhibit stands today and am equally grateful to everyone who supports our efforts.

Fifty-seven photographic artists from Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Florida are represented. This exhibition includes 209 photographs. The 99 photographs chosen from the Printed Photograph Division are mounted on the gallery walls while the 110 chosen from the Digital Image Division are being shown in the gallery using projection systems. Each division has its own online web gallery running concurrently with the gallery exhibition. All the photographs from both divisions appear in this exhibition catalog.

We are grateful to our experienced jury panel, who had the difficult task of narrowing a very large, outstanding field to the number of photographs we are able to properly display. Our jurors have the necessary depth and breath of artistic and photography-specific knowledge and experience. They have done a fine job.

As WAA celebrates its 20th anniversary, we are reminded just how much we value our volunteers, members, and sponsors who are WAA’s life blood. Their tireless efforts and ongoing support are what make it possible for us to produce, promote, fund, and deliver the WAA exhibitions, programs, and events we all enjoy. WAA sincerely thanks them; along with all of the people who exhibit, perform, attend, or participate in its shows and events; the WAA Board of Directors; the City of Whitewater; and the Whitewater community.

Mostly, though, thanks go to all the photographic artists who submitted their work. Without them there would be no exhibit. Enjoy the Show!
