"Recycling to Create Art" Free Demonstration

  • Cultural Arts Center 402 West Main Street Whitewater, WI 53190 USA (map)

“Recycling to Create Art” by Louise Fuerstenberg
Friday, August 16 from 1-3 p.m.

Participants at this demonstration will learn a fun way to recycle unfinished paintings and use old magazines to create works of art. Louise takes her unfinished, rejected, or not-so-great watercolor paintings and adds small paper mosaic pieces cut from old magazines to enhance or develop an existing painting into a new mixed media creation. The challenge is in choosing the right method, collecting your mosaic paper pieces in the right colors and values, and then applying them in the proper order. All materials will be furnished for an 8x10” picture of apples or pears. Participants are invited to bring in their own supplies to offer a greater selection of colors (from illustrations or advertisements in magazines), water containers, scissors, semi-stiff bristle paint brushes for applying paste, and zip lock baggies. If time allows, we may be able to discuss your old or unfinished watercolor paintings, whether to use this method, and how to proceed.

No reservations are required to attend the demonstrations; however, for planning purposes, attendees are asked to RSVP by emailing Dawn Hunter at hunterdawn@charter.net, or by stopping in at the CAC or calling 262-472-0204 during scheduled hours to express their interest.
